Two Euro Millions lottery jackpot winners are investing some of the £161 million they won into their local golf club.

Colin and Christine Weir, who won the fortune in the 2011 Euro Millions lottery and are now Britain’s biggest political donors, have donated £70,000 to Routenburn Golf Club in Scotland.

The money will enable the club to buy its clubhouse, which it currently leases from North Ayrshire Council, saving it £4,500 per year.

The money was actually donated more than 18 months ago, but the sale cannot be completed until the process has passed through a legal stage, which will give the club title deeds, something the land where the course lies has never required before.

The Weirs have also donated £3 million (80 percent of all funding) to the Scottish National Party (SNP) / campaign for Scottish independence since the start of 2013, making them Britain’s political donors in that time. The next top eight donors all gave to the Conservative Party.

The Weirs are Britain’s biggest ever lottery winners and have also set up a £5 million charitable trust that funds health, sport, cultutal, recreational and animal welfare projects in Scotland.
