Criteria and rules for the GCMA Manager of the Year competition

These are the criteria for the GCMA Manager of the Year competition, 2015.

1) The closing date for entries is May 31, 2015

2) Golf Club Manager of the Year entries will be based on the contribution a manager has made in, either a) recent years (especially the last 12 months) at his or her own golf club. Examples of this might be the increasing of members and / or revenue at the club, the undertaking of a major course redesign project, the overseeing of a new clubhouse development, coping with the aftermath of a disaster or the introduction of significant new systems or programmes, or b) the crucial role a manager has played at one or more clubs over several years. For example, they could have notably increased business, introduced improvements to club facilities or management structure, or created a foundation on which the club(s) can build in the future. Candidates must be members of the GCMA, they must manage a minimum of five employees and they must have been a golf club manager for at least three years.

3) Newcomer Club Manager of the Year entries will be based on the outstanding work of managers in the last 12 months who have been at their club for a maximum of three years.

4) Golf Club Team of the Year will be for teams consisting of the club manager, the club’s head greenkeeper and the club’s PGA professional.

5) Any person may make more than one nomination.

6) All nominated club managers must be members of the Golf Club Managers’ Association.

7) All shortlisted nominees must be able to attend final interviews at a golf club in the UK for one day in mid 2015, to be eligible to be a winner.

8) Shortlisted nominees (three from the Golf Club Manager of the Year category, and two each from the Newcomer Club Manager of the Year and Golf Club Team of the Year categories) and the winner will be profiled in Golf Club Management magazine.

9) The prizes:

Golf Club Manager of the Year: A golf holiday and trip for two to Thailand, including flights, transfers, hotels and four games of golf. There is no cash alternative for the prize and travel.

Newcomer Club Manager of the Year: A trip for two to Rioja in Spain, including a visit to a vineyard and golf. In addition, the cost of accommodation in Spain will be covered. There is no cash alternative for the prize and travel.

Golf Club Team of the Year: TBA.

10) Winners will be announced at the GCMA conference at the FA Centre of Excellence, St George’s Park, Burton-on-Trent, in November 2015.

11) The judges’ decision is final.
