The Golf Club Managers’ Association’s Manager of the Year competition has been launched – and vastly extended for 2015, with new categories, new sponsors and new prizes for outstanding managers of golf clubs.

For the first time in its 10-year history, the awards will have three categories: the overall Golf Club Manager of the Year, a Newcomer Manager of the Year category and a Golf Club Team of the Year category.

The newcomer manager must have been at his or her club for a maximum of three years and the team of the year will consist of the manager, the head greenkeeper and the PGA professional.

The overall ‘Manager of the Year’ will win a trip for two to Thailand, courtesy of CoCo Golf Thailand in conjunction with the Tourism Authority of Thailand and Thai Airways, while the newcomer winner will receive a holiday for two to Rioja in Spain.

HowDidiDo, Europe’s largest golfing community, is sponsoring this year’s competition along with, for the first time, Fairstone Financial Management, which is currently helping golf clubs with auto enrolment of their employees to comply with the Pensions Act 2008.

Bob Williams, GCMA CEO, said: “The competition has grown exponentially in the decade since its inception and the time was right to expand it into three categories. I look forward to judging the nominations next year.”

HowDidiDo’s Barry Dyett added: “We’ve been involved with this competition for a number of years now and have watched it grow from strength to strength. With more categories and even bigger prizes, this year is set to be the biggest one yet.”

And Lee Hartley, CEO of Fairstone Financial Management, said: “We’re delighted to be involved in this expanded competition and to get the opportunity to reward and recognise deserving golf club managers for their parts in transforming their golf clubs.”

Last year’s winner of the competition was Emma Clifford. The PGA’s chief executive, Sandy Jones, recently said that her success in the competition was a good example of why golf is changing from being male-dominated.
