West Byfleet Golf Club is a traditional private members’ golf Club with over 500 playing members and a reputation for being friendly and well run. The Club was incorporated as a company limited by guarantee in 2016 and enjoys good financial stability, with no external borrowings.

 

The course, originally opened in 1906, is described as a “fine example of a Surrey heath land course”. There has been much investment in the course over the years and more is planned to ensure it remains a good test of golf for players of all abilities and is presented in excellent condition throughout the year.

The Club seeks to replace the current General Manager who is leaving to take up a similar position at one of the UK’s premier Clubs early next month. This is an exciting position and immediately upon appointment the successful candidate will be expected to lead the management team and assume responsibility for the effective direction, administration, supervision and ‘day-to-day’ management of the Club within the framework of the policy laid down by the Board.

We are looking for a dynamic and forward thinking individual, with a passion for serving the best interests of the Club and its’ members, to lead the next phase of its’ development.

Skills and experience: 

  • Strong leader with proven management, organisational and administrative skills and a good knowledge of IT systems;
  • Outstanding communication skills and the ability to relate to people of all backgrounds and at all levels;
  • Ability to apply modern marketing techniques to promote the Club and increase membership levels as well as driving other sources of income;
  • Financially astute with knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations and best practice;
  • Willing to make decisions and act with urgency on own initiative;
  • Management and control of the assets and the provision of regular and accurate management information across all aspects of a golf club.;
  • Highest possible standards of integrity and diplomacy along with gravitas, common sense and a good sense of humour;
  • Passion for golf with an understanding of the game, its rules and traditions as well as the ethos of a private members’ club;
  • Prepared to work irregular hours and live within commuting distance of the Club;

Whilst knowledge of golf club management will be an advantage, the Club will consider applications from all suitably qualified persons.

Remuneration:

  • We will offer a very competitive compensation package, in line with GCMA recommendations, to the successful candidate who will be required to work on a flexible basis, including weekends. There is no accommodation available.
