Cape Cornwall Golf enters administration
One of the world’s most spectacular golf clubs has been placed into administration.
Cape Cornwall Golf Club and Leisure Resort is located at St Just, near Penzance, where the English Channel and St George’s Channel meet on England’s only cape in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
It was originally put up for sale in 2005 with a guide price of more than £1 million even though it made a profit of less than £30,000 in 2004. It was re-listed with a new agent over a year ago when the owner of the family-run business became ill. However, it has since remained on the market.
Described as ‘Britain’s first and last 18-hole course’ due to its proximity to the Atlantic Ocean, the facility includes an eight-bedroom hotel, a swimming pool, gym, spa and a disused water tower, and has 200 members and employs 20 people.
The 22-year-old club has called in Mark Roach and Simon Girling from BDO as joint administrators. Its turnover was £516,999 in the year ending April 2010.
