Top Gear golf club placed on the market

A Surrey golf club situated next to the Dunsfold Aerodrome – home to motoring television programme Top Gear – has been put up for sale. The announcement comes just a year after its owner had pledged to invest £30 million in the facility.

Wildwood Golf & Country Club, located within 40 miles of central London and within the catchment area of Gatwick and Heathrow airports, recently received full planning permission to build an 84-room hotel including 39 woodland holiday lodges, a health spa and conference facilities.

The club is currently operated by Translloyd Developments, which last year announced that it would build the new hotel and lodges at a cost of £30 million, which would, its director Edmund O’Reilly Hyland stated, ensure that the “local area stops losing hundreds of thousands of pounds a year in hotel, restaurant and tourism income, because visitors to the course are forced to head to Guildford and Horsham due to a lack of facilities in the area. The redevelopment will also increase the appeal of the venue for weddings and corporate functions.”

However, work has not started since and the freehold venue, which includes 27 golf holes, a nine-hole par three course, practice facilities and a large clubhouse, has now been placed up for sale.

Translloyd Developments is also in advanced talks with the PGA to establish its southern regional head office and a centre of excellence at Wildwood.

Wildwood is situated just one mile from the Top Gear location, although it is not the nearest golf club to the show. Dunsfold Aerodrome Golf Club is less than a third of a mile from the circuit.

Does anyone know what is going on at Wildwood now? I know it closed down, is it for sale? Someone told me the company that owns it went into administration, if so, who are the receivers? Any info appreciated.
