The world’s largest golf club has utilised 2,000 of its employees to form the world’s largest human and workable QR code – to promote eco-tourism.

The gigantic QR code was formed when the staff at Mission Hills in China congregated on the resort’s driving range, sporting assorted umbrellas, creating an image filled with colour.

The aerial photo that was captured from a height of 270 feet is readable by a QR scanner and takes smartphone users direct to a campaign website promoting sustainable eco-tourism.

Mission Hills is reported to have invested more than £30 million to support environmental sustainability. The money has been invested in programmes including air quality monitoring and energy, water, waste and carbon emissions management.

The resort features 12 golf courses, each designed by a leading name in golf, including Jack Nicklaus, Greg Norman and Ernie Els. Altogether it has 216 holes and has featured in the Guinness World Records since 2004 – although another Chinese golf club claims it has 279 holes and is expected to officially take over the title shortly.

Dr Ken Chu, chairman and CEO of Mission Hills Group, stated: “We are committed to building a sustainable and environmentally responsible leisure and tourism business that makes a positive economic, cultural and environmental impact on the local community and region.

“At Mission Hills, we are working interminably to improve our sustainability, ecological and environmental records and contributions. We have a good story to tell and want to do so in a way that is both entertaining and engaging for the world to see.”
