Fergie named as new golf club captain
Sir Alex Ferguson has been named as the new captain of De Vere Mottram Hall. The news comes just one week after he retired as the manager of Manchester United.
Ferguson’s official title will be ‘honorary captain’ of the Cheshire golf club, and it is thought he will hold the post for the next year.
A spokesman for the club said he has been an active member for there for several years.
“We are delighted to welcome Sir Alex as honorary captain of the golf club at De Vere Mottram Hall,” said Daniel Hodson, De Vere’s director of Golf.
“An association with someone who has achieved so much and been so ever-present is testament to the grand plans that we have for the resort.
“His achievements at Manchester United and throughout his career are unlikely to ever be matched and we are honoured to have him on board. He has seen a number of changes and upgrades at Mottram Hall since he first started playing here, and he will be the perfect ambassador for the resort going into the exciting summer season.”
Sir Alex Ferguson’s 39-year management career started in Scotland before he took up post at Manchester United in 1986. He went on to become the longest serving manager in the club’s history, winning 38 trophies, including 13 league titles and two Champions League crowns.
