A brawl allegedly involving eight men broke out at a golf club last month over slow play – and even resulted in the police driving on buggies to the fourth hole to break it up.

Video footage shows two men punching each other and the police have said ‘bones had been broken’ and even that weapons were used.

According to The Sentinel: “Staffordshire Police officers have been praised after they utilised two golf buggies to get to the melee.

“The alleged incident happened at Greenway Hall Golf Club, in Stockton Brook.

Thanks to people pointing out to us on Twitter, we can confirm that while this still from a YouTube video was taken discussing the incident, it is actually from a fight at a golf club in the USA about two years ago

“Police later arrested four men on suspicion of assault.

“But they have now decided to take no further action and the golfers have been released without charge.”

The drama unfolded on a Friday afternoon last month.

A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: “Our officers used their initiative and utilised two golf buggies when they were called to reports of an incident at the golf course.

“The officers responded to a report of an alleged assault at Greenway Hall Golf Club at around 1.55pm on Friday. On arrival the officers used two golf buggies to quickly get to the location on the course.

“Four men were arrested at the scene on suspicion of assault. Following inquiries they were later released without further action. A man was treated at the scene for minor injuries.”

Police have also revealed that weapons were used in the incident – and ‘bones had been broken’.

Chief Inspector John Owen, commander of Stoke-on-Trent North, said: “I’m very proud of my officers. They’ve used initiative, gone to a fight (as we always do) outnumbered, and have resolved it resulting in peace and order. Hole in one I’d say!”

A picture in The Sentinel shows a convoy of five buggies, two of which are believed to be containing police officers.

It has been claimed that the dispute related to complaints about slow play between two groups of golfers.
