The Masters is just around the corner, with golf fans barely having been afforded a breather by all the controversy thrown up by the launch of the Super Golf League, which is being headed by none other than Greg Norman. The odds of top PGA Tour pros heading to the new league appear to be slim, but in the meantime, they need to focus on delivering for those online tipsters who have backed them to go all the way at Augusta. Here we detail some of the most fancied swingers in the field, to see if it’s possible to predict who will be getting themselves a brand-new green jacket come the tournament’s close on April 10th.

One of these players will walk off into the sunset with a green jacket draped over their shoulders, the rest will leave Augusta disappointed

Hideki Matsuyama

Only the greatest players of all time have ever been able to retain a Masters title, with Tiger Woods, Nick Faldo and Jack Nicklaus having achieved the feat. Now it is the turn of Japanese superstar Hideki Matsuyama to try and join that elite club. The odds are very much against him doing it, but he did start 2022 with a bang, landing himself the Sony Open in Hawaii in impressive fashion. If he can carry that form into the Masters, then he will be in with a good shout.

Rory McIlroy

The Northern Irishman has been showing glimpses of his very best form and surely it’s only a matter of time before he puts it all together across four rounds. The Masters is the only major championship missing from McIlroy’s trophy cabinet and there will be plenty of people around the world wagering on him to get his hands on that last illusive major. His previous best attempt was a fourth position in 2015.

Flawless putting is just one of the skills that any Masters winner has to display

Phil Mickelson

Lefty has ruffled some feathers on tour with his comments about the breakaway Saudi-backed league and were he able to claim his fourth Masters crown it would make for some seriously awkward viewing when it comes to awards ceremonies featuring PGA Tour representatives.

His last Masters triumph came all the way back in 2010, but anyone with the ability that Mickelson has can put together tournament winning rounds. There will be plenty of people in the grandstands who for once won’t be willing Mickelson to victory, but that might just spur him on like never before.
