After officially announcing season 3 of its hit golf docuseries, Full Swing, Netflix has revealed that it is set to debut in early 2025. After the first two seasons tracked the PGA Tour’s disruption by the emerging LIV Golf tournament, the upcoming season is set to cover some of the sport’s most talked-about moments in 2024

Cross-Platform Entertainment a Boon for Golf

Following in the footsteps of the Formula 1 Drive to Survive series, Full Swing has helped to attract a new audience to golf with its behind-the-scenes insights into the PGA Tour. The two series even culminated in a cross-over event with 2023’s The Netflix Cup, which has marked a new era in cross-platform entertainment for the streamer.

The merging of sports content with broader entertainment has been a growing trend. Sports bettors can play bingo at Paddy Power when not making wagers, with in-game bingo leaderboards replicating a competitive sports-like quality. The symbiotic relationship between the different sectors helps to merge fandoms, as has been the case with Netflix and the PGA Tour.

The first season of Full Swing amassed an impressive 53 million viewing hours in just six months, simultaneously transforming how golf fans engage with the league. The PGA Tour reported that its live gold viewership also increased by 42 percent in the wake of the show. It’s clear why anticipation for season 3 is so high.

What to Expect in Season Three

Considering how eventful the 2024 golf season has been, we can expect a dramatic new season of the show. Executive producer Chad Mumm has stated his belief that it could be “the best season ever” due to the many compelling storylines that have unfolded. One of the most talked about is the surprising arrest of Scottie Scheffler at the PGA Championship.

Another saga set to get to the Full Swing treatment is Bryson DeChambeau’s US Open victory over rival Rory McIlroy after a neck-and-neck round. This marked the second US Open victory for DeChambeau but a disappointing result for McIlroy who was attempting to end his 10-year championship drought.

Robert MacIntyre’s win at the Canadian Open was one of the most emotional moments in the 2024 calendar, as was Keegan Bradley’s recruitment to team captain at the 2025 Ryder Cup. Of course, the negotiations between the PGA Tour and PIF continue, with a merger with LIV Golf predicted to be imminent.

Highlights of Season 1 and 2

With months to go before season 3’s release, viewers may benefit from a rewatch. A central storyline to both seasons is the emergence of LIV Golf, with the series tracking players who departed and those who remained loyal to the PGA Tour. Rory McIlroy’s role as a star player and tour defender earned him a place as a fan favorite, as did Keegan Bradley’s journey toward Ryder Cup selection.

The friendship between Joel Dahmen and caddie Geno Bonnalie was also powerful and added a heartwarming touch to the show. We expect that these stories and more will continue to evolve in 2025, with the upcoming release promising another compelling chapter in this groundbreaking saga.
