Golf is a sport adored worldwide. However, it might differ from country to country. Since there is an apparent difference in golf in the UK and the USA, golf enthusiasts want to know more about this. This article reveals more about the differences.

Exclusivity

Golf in the US is seen as a sport for the wealthy. It is reserved for the ones that can afford the memberships and costly equipment. In movies, golf players are often depicted as elitists. However, that isn’t quite the case in the UK. Golf is seen as a sport for everyone there. A set of rules might appear pretentious to some, but in reality, it is a good set of rules that every golfer should respect. These rules are in favor of keeping the golf game fair. Whether you visit golf courses in England, Wales, or Scotland, you will notice players of different ranges. You can encounter golf enthusiasts from the working class and wealthy people.

The US seems to follow this trend of making golf available for anyone. Currently, more affordable golf courses can be accessed for a commission of $20.

Golf clubs

Murifield is known as the most exclusive club in the UK. It is where last year’s Open Championship took place. The doors are open for nonmembers on Tuesday and Thursday. However, you can’t play as a non-member at the US Augusta National. Golf Digest ranked the top 10 courses in each county.

On the other hand, the UK can say that the playing experience is somewhat different. For US golfers, it is an all-day luxury getaway. For UK players, golf is an activity that fits somewhere in the daily schedule.

Etiquette

The UK and US mentality differ in various aspects. The first thing that comes to our minds about the US is that they grow up thinking anyone can be the next president. On the other hand, people in the UK always believe that there is someone out there better than them. This is a crucial difference in the mindset of both countries, so watch golf on TV today and notice the playing energy.

UK people seem to be more focused on etiquette and integrity. They seem to know how to handle loss, doing it with grace. On the other hand, the US is different in this aspect. Players might have the win-at-all-costs mentality, which differs from the UK. This can be explained in straightforward terms. US golfers expect to win at a game.

On the other hand, UK players hope to win. It all comes down to who the person wants to be, even off the course. UK golf is more casual, which does not cause stress for players.

The difference in mentalities might not be that apparent or significant. But many believe that it gives players an edge. Players from the US might have an advantage compared to British golfers.

Golf courses

There are a few things to consider when it comes to golf courses in different countries. A golf cart is a necessity for some. However, it is not common for the British players. Walking is a common standard unless a player has a medical condition requiring a cart. The rainy or windy weather doesn’t stop the Brits from enjoying a good golf game. The more casual approach in the UK allows players to abandon lost balls sooner than in the US.
