This week, Wales is hosting the Senior Open, which means the golfing world will focus on the country.

In the newest edition of Europe’s only over-50s major, some of golf’s biggest names will peg it up at Royal Porthcawl.

Wales is home to some of the best and most varied golf courses in the world, and nowhere is that more evident than in the country’s northern regions, which are hosting this year’s tournament.

Golf is one of the most favored sports in the UK, which drives more and more people to play and make bets even online and engage in Outplayed lay betting. So, five of the most favorite golf courses in North Wales are listed here.

Aberdovey

Travelers visiting Aberdovey will be greeted with a scene as dramatic as any they’ve ever seen.

Its beautiful link course is tucked between the Cambrian Mountains and the sea at the mouth of the Dovey Estuary in Snowdonia National Park.

Welsh golfing legend Ian Woosnam used to hone his skills at this course every year before going across the Atlantic to compete in The Masters.

For the memories it has provided me and my family, Aberdovey will always have a special place in my heart,” said the 1991 Green Jacket winner. I always look forward to returning to this course when I play golf since it is so great. Indeed, it is high praise.

Porthmadog

Porthmadog was designed by golfing hero James Braid and opened in 1905 in Morfa Bychan, located three miles from the harbor town of the same name.

The first nine holes are set in open heathland, while the second nine are more wooded and have a “linksy” character.

A spectacular and demanding round is set against the breathtaking backdrop of Cardigan Bay and the Snowdonia mountain range.

Pwllheli

Located in the same town, Pwllheli is a market town similar to Porthmadog.

Both courses are split in two and were created by James. Pwllheli’s first nine holes are more park-like, while the course’s back nine feature more conventional links features like fast-running fairways, gorse, heather, and revetted bunkers.

The course opened in 1900 and is a pleasing challenge to players and features breathtaking views of Snowdonia and Cardigan Bay.

Wrexham

One of the country’s most progressive and contemporary golf clubs, Wrexham always extends a warm welcome to its guests.

A fantastic parkland course that will challenge even the best golfers, set against the beautiful, particularly Welsh rolling, green landscape.

The 16th is a dogleg left, so be careful. A fade is the preferred tee shot for the finest fairway opening and approach to the green. But if you stray too far from the tee, your low score will be history.

Everyone had a fantastic time.

Bull Bay

The Bull Bay golf course, with its catchy moniker, is the farthest north in all of Wales.

Each tee box offers breathtaking vistas of the surrounding landscape, whether it be the Isle of Anglesey and the mountains of Snowdonia, the Irish Sea and the Isle of Man, or even the distant highlands of the Lake District.

The valleys and rocky outcroppings on this Herbert Fowler-designed course provide plenty of twists and turns.
